At the Big Island Fuel Crops Project we are committed to the development of the biofuels industry in Hawaii and around the globe. We will be looking at several different crops that have been identified as excellent biofuel sources and others that have yet to be examined closely. One of those crops, Jatropha curcas, is grown as a biodiesel source in third world countries using third world labor and farming practices. Only through aggressive research and development will it be possible to grow biofuel crops such as Jatropha curcas profitably in Hawaii. It is our goal to develop farming practices and hybrids that will allow for Jatropha curcas to be grown in Hawaii and other locations throughout the world profitably.
